Damavand Peak, a single and cone mountain, in the heart of the mountainous land of Iran, is the largest natural attraction in the Middle East and the leading destination of many tourists every year. This legendary mountain with an altitude of over 5,600 meters and higher than the Everest Base Camp, with the scenery of the largest lake in the world, the Caspian Sea in the north, and the central desert of Iran in the south, located in 70 kilometers northeast of Iran’s capital, Tehran. The best itinerary for good acclimatization and an easy climb to Mount Damavand is the Tochal-Damavand tour. Mount Tochal, with a height of 3960 meters, is part of Tehran city. It’s an excellent idea to spend a quiet night at the 2700-meter height in Sheripela hut with the best accommodation services in nice, warm rooms for acclimatization Damavand (compare Damavand height and Tochal here).
One night sleeping in the Shirapla hut and climbing Tochal can provide a comfortable and safe climb to Damavand.

TOUR FULL ITINARY
Day 1: Tehran sightseeing
Arriving at Tehran I.K. Airport in the morning (or meet you in Tehran), welcome and regarding the group, transport to the hotel in the center of Tehran where you can leave your luggage and be ready for city sightseeing. After breakfast (on your charge) we’ll start on the Tehran sightseeing tour. Tehran Grand Bazaar, Golestan palace (UNESCO world Heritage), and Iran National Museum. O/N at hotel.
NOTE: Booking an extra hotel for the previous night will be available for an extra charge if you arrive at midnight or early in the morning.
Day 2: Trekking to Shirpala hut (~2700 m) at the foot of Mount Tochal in the north of Tehran
After breakfast, we’ll start trekking Shirpala hut (~2700 m) at the foot of Tochal summit in the north of Tehran via the Darband valley route. it takes about 3 hours of trekking in a very beautiful valley. After reaching Shirpala hut you can walk around, acclimatize, and enjoy the scenes of the Tehran metropolis. O/N in a hut shared rooms.
Day 3: Climbing to Tochal summit (~3950 m), transport to Damavand hostel
Early morning, we’ll start climbing to Tochal Summit. It takes around 4 hours to reach the summit at an altitude of 3960 m. Afternoon we’ll descend to Tehran and the group will be transferred to the Damavand hostel at the foot of Mount Damavand. O/N at the hostel shared rooms.
NOTE: In case the Tochal Cable Car works, you can use it from an altitude of 3700 m to descend to Tehran easily and save your energy & time for the next day’s climb in Damavand.
Day 4: Recovery & rest day in Damavand hostel ~ 2400 m, acclimatization around the hostel
After climbing a (nearly) 4000 m summit of Tochal we have enough time to sleep and recover our energy for the next day’s trekking in Damavand. During the day you can pack your extra stuff to leave at the hostel. Also, thanks to the Damavand hostel location in the foothill of the Damavand, it will be possible to hike up to 2800-3000 m for better acclimatization for the next day’s climbing. Visiting Rineh town and keeping in touch with the locals can make this day interesting. O/N at the hostel shared rooms.
Day 5: A 4WD transfer to 3000 m, trekking to Damavand hut 4250 m
Full of energy and ready to climb Damavand, we will leave the hostel by 4WD cars to the 3000 m campsite called Goosfandsara in an hour’s drive on an uncomfortable gravel road. Here we will load our luggage on the mules/porters to be carried to the 4250 m camp. Depending on the group pace, it will take around 5 to 7 hours to reach the Damavand hut at an altitude of 4250 m. O/N at the hut or 2-person tent.
Day 6: Acclimatization day (or bad weather reservation)
Today we have enough time for acclimatization and enjoying the scenes. After well sleeping, and serving breakfast we’ll start climbing slowly to about 4800 m altitude, and will have enough rest on our way, taking photos, etc. then descend to the hut slowly. O/N at the hut or 2-person tent.
Day 7: Summit day back to the camp 4250 m (if possible to the hostel)
After breakfast in the early morning, we’ll start to ascend to the top of the Iran, Damavand summit (5610 m). It takes about 6 hours to reach the summit. After reaching the summit you can see the Crater of the old Damavand volcano (the highest volcano in Asia) and enjoy scenes, taking memorial pictures. Then descend to the hut (about 3 hours). O /N at the hut or 2-person tent.
NOTE: Depending on the group conditions, timing, weather conditions, and your guide’s decision, you may have a chance to descend to the village for better and more comfortable sleep at the hostel.
Day 8: Descend to the hostel, Hot Spring, and go back to Tehran
After breakfast and packing our luggage, we’ll descend to Gosfandsara, where our 4WD will transport us to Polour. Take a shower and collect the equipment. If you like going to Larijan local hot springs will be available for an extra charge. The most important of these hot springs is located in Abe Garm Larijan in a village named Larijan in the district of Larijan. The water from this spring is useful in the treatment of chronic wounds and skin diseases. Near these springs there are public and private baths with small pools for use. The main spring temperature is about 65 degrees, but the pool and bathroom water is cooler. In the evening we’ll transport the group to Tehran.

No need to have any special vaccination. There is no contagious disease in Iran. But for abroad holiday its better to do your regular health care and vaccination or teeth treatment before you travel.
The currency of Iran is the Iranian Rial. Most of places does not accept Paypal or International credit cards, So you must pay in cash, or you can use Iranian Debit Card. You can charge your Travel Debit Card with local currency (You can charge this card ones (50 E, 100 E, 200 Euro or more) during your journey in Iran. We advise you to charge it until 300 euro before you visit museum, hot springs, market, shops and restaurant. With this card you can easily pay everywhere and withdraw local currency from any ATM. Iran is an Islamic Country, So If you are a woman, You must wear scarf and mantoo and also man are prohibited to wear shorts in the cities.

Climb Damavand & Tochal in January & February – March & April
As you may know and can read about Damavand climbing season, the normal months for summer treks in Damavand are between June and September.

In this way, Damavand & Tochal tours in December, January, and February will be considered winter climbing and expedition base tours, which need much more skills and types of altitude equipment.

This trip grading involves MODERATE levels. These adventures involve trekking, cycling, or mountain biking for up to 6 or 7 hours a day at a steady pace. You will need a good level of fitness and be in good health. The majority of our moderately graded treks involve the carrying of a day pack only, though some may involve carrying a full pack. Be prepared for potential variable weather conditions.
Damavand’s south route is not a technical climb. It just needs good health and stamina as well as the ability to trek in altitudes.
